Dear Barrett,

It was over dinner a few weeks ago that I learned from JoeColagiovanni ('78), a neighbor and fellow member of the St. Louis Italian Club, about the planning for your birthday celebrations. Celia and I decided on the spot that we would go to Providence and join the October party.

It is a pleasure to convey these brief remarks of congratulations and best wishes for many more happy and healthy birthdays to come. Although nearly 40 years have passed since I left Brown, I couldn't help but be aware of all the good works you were doing and continue to do as professor and dean there. You are indeed an inspiration to the academic profession.
