Dear Barrett,

It was about 32 years ago this month that I walked into your office and asked for advice about what might come next after graduation. Thirty two years later, and thousands of pieces of advice later, your words still stand out as the most vivid and continue to ring in my ears, "Go out, see and feel the rest of the world."

Well, it has been a wonderful journey. In fact just last week, after 28 years at McKinsey, Mary and I have moved to San Francisco and we are starting a new chapter in California, as I join the Texas Pacific Group.

The university holds a special place in our society and we are particularly fortunate to be part of the Brown family. This family has included a spectacular group of people. Many great faculty members, inspired university leaders, and exhilarating students have graced the Green, our classrooms and our hallways. Within that constellation you are one of the brightest stars.

You are a remarkable teacher, a selfless supporter, an indomitable spirit, a calming force, and a genuine friend. Brown and the Brown family around the world, would not be what it is today without you.

Mary and I want to thank for all you have done for us and Brown, and send you our warmest wishes for your 75th birthday. We wish you and your Mary the very best life has to offer.

Warmly,
Jerome and Mary
